G'day and welcome to the forums.

Depending on what OS you are using, your post offers no information, Downloads are in Finder and the icon appears in Safari. Can't help with pother browsers.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

Open your Finder. Click on your home folder (the one with your user name and the small house). You should see your Downloads folder there. Drag the downloads folder to the right side of the Dock divider line and drop it there.

In addition to the excellent suggestions already, you might want to look at the Finder Preferences to see if the 'Downloads' tab has been unchecked? See the screen capture attached of my preferences - Dave
