I have a mid-2007 20 inch imac 2.4 ghz and for the past few days my imac has been making weird noises from the hard drive... called apple and they sent a free snow leopard disk thinking it was a problem with lion. I installed it and it still acted up. I then installed it on a USB drive and it works like a charm. what hard drive should i get? Is a Solid State drive worth it on this old of a machine and if so what do you recommend? I am currently stuck on my ibook g4 and my iOS devices as my main typing machines for now. All of my intel macs went down at the same time.

I certainly wouldn't spend the dollars on a SSD for a machine that old. You can buy a nice 500 GB or larger 7200 RPM drive (3.5") for the iMac and still have money left over....

Other World Computing has a nice lineup of drives. Or go to Amazon.com and browse around there. I personally like Hitachi, WD, and Seagate.
