Hi, I've been looking at upgrading my mid 2011 iMac RAM to 12GB by using the current 4Gb installed and adding another 8Gb.
I've found

INTEGRAL PC3-10600 DDR3-1333 SODIMM RAM Memory Module - 4GB at cheap prices | Pcworld

can someone just confirm that this is the correct RAM before I go and get it?

As for the position of the slots that they go in, is it as simple as just putting the 2 new 4gb sticks into the empty slots or should the new ones go in place of the old and move the 2 older sticks into the empty clots?

You can visit RAM Memory Upgrade: Dell, Mac, Apple, HP, Compaq. USB drives, SSD at Crucial.com or Memory up to 32GB for Apple iMac 2011 Thunderbolt equipped models to grab your memory for upgrade. Or at least use them to ensure that the memory you've found is indeed correct (speed and so on)..

As far as the installation goes, yes, it's as simple as removing the bottom memory slot and plugging in the new memory into the available free slots and off you go. You don't need to touch the existing memory..

If you click on the Apple logo in the top left of the screen and then on "about this mac", that'll tell you what type of RAM (MHz and DDR) that you need.

As for which slots to put it in - don't know. My iMac has only 2 slots for RAM so I replaced the existing ones with new ones. But if you click on the more info tab from the above, and then memory, you'll get a link to instructions to upgrade your RAM.

Hi there,

That RAM looks okay, but if I were you, I would go with either Crucial or Kingston RAM, just to be sure that it will be 100% compatible with your iMac.
I recently got 2x 4Gb Kingston Modules from www.jigsaw24.com for £15 each delivered
I'd strongly advise you to give their extremely helpful sales team a call on 03332 400 888 to check the current pricing.

As far as fitting the RAM, just undo the RAM access slot with a Philips #2 screwdriver and flip out the little black plastic tabs, then insert the RAM in the free slots that are under the existing modules. Be sure that when you insert the RAM, that you push the modules in firmly, until you hear an audible "click".
