Hi there I'm new to this site and I know this question must have been asked before but I cannot find it anywhere, I am seeking advise on buying a iMac.

I am wanting to buy an iMac but not sure if I should wait for the new 2012 model to come out (whenever that may be). The only reason's I am thinking of waiting is because I'm not sure if they are going to put USB 3.0 in the new iMacs. I just wouldn't want to buy the 2011 model iMac and then a month later they bring out USB 3.0 with the new model, also if the new Ivy Bridge processors will be introduced to.

If anyone could help with their opinion on whether or not to wait as it is been almost a year since the last model. Also if you think its worth waiting for USB 3.0 and Ivy bridge (will it be that much of an upgrade?) I'm not in desperate need of an iMac right now so could wait but with Apple you never know when new models are coming out, so don't want to be waiting to long.

Cheers
Eamon

Hi Eamon

Oft quoted comments are:

no one knows when any new iMac will be unveiled nor what exact "upgrades" it will have. (I'm guessing, though, that USB 3.0 will not be amongst them).

If you need an iMac now, buy it. If you don't, wait. For many folks, the current model will last them for years. This forum has contributors who still run OS Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard and seem content with machines that are several years old.

Only you can decide - based on current need, time and economics whether to buy or wait. Maybe not the answer you were looking for; but practical.
