I have been happily running my iMac 27" for a couple of years and I love it.

It is has now decided to make all the fonts in my browser windows bold. This happens in Safari and Firefox.

How can I reset the font to be regular as opposed to bold? It looks horrible as you can see on the attached screengrab.

I really would appreciate some advice here.

Since it's happening in both Safari and Firefox, that suggests something might have been changed system wide that affects the browser. Have you recently installed any third party software that can be used to change the appearance of your iMac?

Also, you can open Safari Preferences and check to see what the preferred font is that it's using. I don't use FF but I imagine it has the same preference option for fonts.

It is not the browser settings as far as I can see. It has to be someting else.

How about any third party software that you may have recently installed or tried out and then removed? There are several third party apps that can change the overall appearance of the browser.

Might be a problem with your system's font cache. As far as I have read up, booting in safe mode will reset the font cache.

Safe Mode:

To start up into Safe Mode (to Safe Boot), do this:

Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
