Western Digital tech support emailed me back after I told them how another one of their internal HDs is acting up. The last one died, this one is starting to freeze out of nowhere, going to a gray screen, followed by a clicking sound coming from the HD. They told me to try replacing the SATA cable.

Could this be the problem? And if so, what kind of SATA cable should I order for an iMac 20 inch 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo from early 2008?

Cheap enough:-

iMac 20inch Hard drive Sata Cable Part 922-8195

Apple dealer will give you a price on a new cable fitted for comparison.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!
