Hello

I have a question about 2 different models of iMac G5's and how compatible their parts would be with each other.

The suspects:

iMac G5 2.1Ghz PPC 20" iSight - EMC: 2082 - Serial: W8611080TAR - PowerMac 12,1

iMac 2.1 Ghz Intel Core Duo 20" iSight - EMC: 2105 - Serial: W86157BHUZP

The intel's LCD has died I can see the glowing backlight but nothing on the screen. I have tried all the troubleshooting I've seen like reset SMU and PRAM and have seen people mention that it might be the inverter.

The inverters at a glance look identical but I looks can be deceiving

Also if anyone else has any ideas at what the problem might be it would be greatly appreciated as I'm aware it could also be the LCD or logic board.

Thanks!

G'day and welcome to the forums.

From your description sounds like the inverter board has failed. Here is a link to parts and diagnosis:-

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

Firstly, the Intel Macs are not G5's. Just a heads up so you know and people will not be confused.

I have the service manuals on both machines. I own the iMac G5 2.1 Ghz ISight. I will check and get back to you.

Well, the part numbers are a few off on the LCD Panels but the top and bottom backlight cable and and the LVDS Cable are exactly the same an in the same places. I think the part numbers reflect the display manufacture they were using at the time. Checked your EMS number and it matched my manual.

So what I can tell you is, it SHOULD work but I am not 1000% sure like I like to be.
