This is probably a silly question (I'm sure you'll let me know) but if I'm going to be away for 3 - 4 weeks and won't be using my iMac, should I unplug it from the power supply?

I'm not expecting any freak thunderstorms or anything but thought if it wasn't going to be used, it might be a good idea to unplug it.

Thanks for your thoughts on this.

If it is sleeping or turned off, it won't drain a noticeable amount of power.

If you're worried about a freak t-storm in your area, it's never a bad idea to be cautious because no average surge protector will save you from a direct lightning strike.

Thanks for the input. I'll probably just unplug it and my AirPort Extreme just to be safe. I have two PC's as well and will likely unplug them as well.

By the way, I am in the habit of unplugging my computers if there is a thunderstorm nearby. I know some people don't worry about it but I've always been the type to be over cautious.

Yes unplug it if you are in an area that has storms.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!
