Dual Monitor set up. What works?

I need advice on what second monitor works for my 2008 IMAC. I purchased a 25" HP LED only to find out there are compatibility issues. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What compatibility issues? Most any good monitor should work with your iMac provided you're using the correct adapters and cables. Your iMac probably has a Mini DVI output port which means you will need at a minimum, a Mini DVI adapter to whatever cable you're using to the external monitor.
