Right firstly, hi guys and gals, im new to the whole i mac experience but not apple, currently i have a budget of £1700 pounds to buy an i mac desktop,so advice on what to buy would be great but also advice on saving a few pounds would be great, I also intend to buy from an apple store, don't know how relevant that piece of info was but anyway, i have 2 children 1 in school and 1 in college would this qualify me for any discount if i told them in store? thanks in advance for any replies i get and any tips would be much appreciated

You will not qualify for a discount but the children will, so buy the mac for them.

You should be able to get a very decent iMac for that price, but there are a couple of money saving tips we all recommend on the forum.

1. Order the mac with the base ram, don't order extra ram from Apple, it comes at a premium and it is much cheaper to upgrade the ram later yourself.

2. Educational discount aside, another big way to save bucks is to look at the Apple UK refurb store (Google it). Don't be put off by the refurbs, they are essentially returned and fixed macs, you get some money off the SSP price and its still got the full warranty - its a new mac in all but price
