So i have a mac mini from 2005 and its running 10.4.11 yes its a G4.

I have made a bootable drive with 10.5 and I cant get it to boot from my USB port. Ive tried looking under the Open Firmware boot menu but see nothing for ud under devalias.

also the optical drive wont work.

Ive read about 5 articles now and none of them apply or have worked.

when I click install OSX from the virtual drive menu with the USB stick in, it just loads 10.4.11 normally.

any ideas?

OS X 10.6.4
2GB RAM
2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo

PowerPC Macs can't boot from USB. Only firewire.

MacDude is correct. No PPC Mac will boot from USB, only Firewire.

Do you have a Retail 10.5 DVD? You saying the drive will not read it?

I own the very first 1.25Ghz Mini and with some the optical drive wears out. I cleaned the laser in mine and it works great again.
