I have a work laptop (pc) and the only output on it is a VGA out. I have a 27" imac that is less than a year old and I would love to use the display as a monitor for my laptop since I will be working from home a lot. Googling provided me with a way to make it work if I had an HDMI out but unfortunately I only have a VGA out. Anyone done this with success?

Thanks in advance and I apologize if this has been answered before, searching did not provide any solid answers.

I tried this a few years ago. I was never able to get it to work.

Well that sucks. Kind of silly that I can hook it up to my 48" LCD TV but not my computer display. I would just use my TV but I would rather work at my desk instead of on the couch.

You may want to use something like VNC to share the screen.

Your other option would be to trade it with someone who has the older iMac without the thunderbolt that is comparable to what you have.
