Hey all,
I recently bought a G5 desktop with a superdrive. For the first few weeks everything was going great. However, now a days the computer seems to run fairly slow, especially on the internet. I will click on a link or try and attach a document and it will load the website halfway and then just stop. I will have to stop and refresh or go back numerous times...it sometimes does this even with google. I think I might have spyware but I dont know of any software (i kno spybot but it doesnt work for macs..or i couldnt get it to) that would remove this spyware. Thanks for your help Also...does anyone know why Microsoft Word opens whenever I turn on my computeR? Thanks |

Look in your user control panel and check for startup item. How are you connecting to the internet?

[EDIT] must be used if with superdrive I have not heard of any spyware for OS X, are you running Tiger with Safari for your web browser? Have you tried using a different browser, possibly Firefox or Camino? Go to System Preferences > Accounts > Startup Items (or Login Items) and see what is there, Word might be starting because it is in that list. You said you are attaching a document. Are you using webmail? This could be a problem with the server on the other end and not on your end. Let me know how things go |

I have a similar problem to MacQuasker, but I've had it since new. A few months ago I bought a new G5 2.7GHz with 2GB of RAM. It's connected to Demon broadband via a DSL-504 ADSL modem/ethernet router. Whereas my old G4 connected to the internet almost instantly, the G5 is SLOW, taking 20 seconds or so to load, say, Google. Same when downloading or sending e-mail -- there's a sort of lag. Once a web page has loaded it seems quicker. Even my wife's old indigo iMac connects almost instantly, using the same ethernet connection. I don't get it, and it's driving me mad. I wrote to MacUser, whose expert says it depends upon whch browser I'm using -- but it doesn't: Firefox, Safari, IE5, all the same.
Any ideas, please? |
