Hi there,

I'm having a bit of a nightmare with my mac mini.
I'm not sure if it's due to installing a new hard drive? Lion? Or what. But it's very unstable and keeps locking up.
Once locked up I can move my mouse pointer around but if I click on anything nothing happens. I get a spinning wheel.

As I'm hard rebooting a lot I've also twice now got to a point where OXS will no longer boot. It says the HD is unmounted and I have to reinstall Lion again.

Here's some logs I'm getting if that helps but any advice would be most welcomed..

What audio device do you have connected, and what monitor, connected with what cable, ie. DVI or HDMI?

I've got a digital out cable into my AMP (Toslink).
And a miniDisplay port to HDMI going into my TV.

Amp and TV are mostly left off though.

any idea what this nstat_lookup thing is?

Regards,
Simon.

The other thing I'm wondering if I've just turned File Vault on as well. Is that stable? It shouldn't be causing any crashes?

I would strongly encourage you to turn FileVault back off. It can and does cause a lot of users serious issues. I don't think FileVault would be causing the above issues, but if this began after you turned it on - see how it goes after you've turned it off.

Hi there,

So I think I've tracked this down.
It seems to be Safari that's causing the nstat errors. I close that down on my Mac Mini and the lock ups go away.

Hopefully an update to Lion will soon fix the issue.

Simon

Looking back thru the log, I see Sandbox, which, if I'm right, is to do with secure online payments. Ditch it! In my experience, Sandbox is like a rabid porcupine with MacOS (others may have had better times with it). Sandbox + Safari could be causing major problems.

How to I remove it? I'm not sure I ever installed it?

I thought Sandbox was the way OSX keeps data/memory within it's own space so if one thing crashes it doesn't take the whole system down?

Simon

You may be right in what you say, but SB is a file management tool "for editing Mac OS X's access control lists." [source: Download Sandbox for Mac - GUI for editing Mac OS X access control lists. MacUpdate.com ]. Use Finder (Cmd-F) from desktop, search for Sandbox to see if it's installed, and then see if you can disable it.

And what about the Global Preferences? I see you operate Lion, and it may be specific to that new OS, but I cannot find anything of that name in SLpd Prefs. I was going to suggest that you trash the GP prefs, and reboot.

Read this too https://discussions.apple.com/thread...art=0&tstart=0, although it's light on solutions.

Are you determined to stay with Lion, or would you consider reverting to SLpd until the numerous Lion bugs and problems have been sorted out? Reverting would require you to wipe your hard drive completely in order to do a clean install of SLpd.
