What's the maximum external resolution for my iMac MC508LL?

It comes with an ATI Radeon HD 4670 which supports 2560x1600 but that's for the main display... What about a display connected through the mini-display port?

Your machine's internal display is set at 2560 x 1440 as its native resolution. It supports up to 2560 x 1600 external through the mini display port. (If you gave us the correct model number.)

I have it connected through the mini display port but display options only shows 1280 x 800 as the maximum resolution for the external monitor. How can I fix this?

The maximum resolution is 2560 x 1600 and it requires a dual-dvi cable to work which is why I am guessing the mini display port is failing to give me the correct resolution.

The monitor is a 30" Dell 3007WFP

Are you using a dual-dvi cable? If you are and it's still showing only 1280 x 800, make sure you're scrolling all the way through the resolution box. Sometimes you have to scroll up to see all the available resolutions. Otherwise, try another adapter.
