According to Mactracker, your machine is an early 2008 24" iMac. Since there is only one set of memory banks, that means two modules. You can unofficially put in 6 GB and it should recognize and use it. The key word here is "should". Apple says the machine can only use 4 GB maximum.
I'm not sure what would happen if you used two 4 GB modules for a total of 8 GB but suspect that it either would not boot or it may just ignore the second module. Even putting in one 4 GB and one 2 GB module for a total of 6 GB may also give the same result. Buy the memory from somewhere that you can return it for a refund if things don't work out. |
