I have an original Mac Pro and my stock video card just went out. I am searching for a replacement. Wanted to get some suggestions and if anyone knew what the best card available was?

Nick

Best is an owner's pride in the card.

Personally use a flashed ATI Radeon HD4870 !GB memory and it flies. A cheaper card is the nVidia GeForce 8800GT but make sure you purchased the model for the 1.1 Mac Pro.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

current mac pro come with radion 5770 which you you may be able to find but 6770 is basically the same card with a better chip architecture to use power more efficatly.

now I dont know if pc and mac cards are identical but I love my 5770 on my gaming machine.

In terms of the best card out there the AMD Radeon HD™ 6990 is two 6970 on one card and is considered to be the best card on the market. I'm biest to XFX for the manufacturer do to their outstanding warranty "Double life time"

They are not interchangeable and later Radeons require PCI-E 2.0 slots which the Mac Pro 1.1 does not have. Suggest you look on eBay for Mac Pro graphic cards.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!
