I bought a My Book for Mac to save photo files from my mac. It automatically launched Time Machine. However, I keep getting the error that my computer is almost full and I need to delete files from my startup disk. I want to save these photo files on to the My Book, not delete them, and still be able to access them. I dragged a gazillion files over on to the My Book icon thinking to move them but I am still getting the 'disk full' message. HELP!

Drag and drop from one disk to another from within Finder copies the files to the other drive, it does not move them.

After you have copied the files to your external disk, have verified they are there and work as they should, then it is safe to delete them from your internal drive. There are always chances that some files will become corrupt durig the copy/move process. When you're moving/copying a bunch of files, I typically just open some number of files at random until I feel confident enough to delete from the internal drive.

However, it should be noted, you now have all your pics, again, only in one location. That drive dies, you lose all your pics.

I cannot be held responsible for the things that come out of my mouth.
