clean install and iphone apps

I'm sure this has been discussed to the high heavens but right before I leave for work my search-foo is week. If I decide to do a clean format and install of snow leopard, how do I get my iphone apps back. I'm don't care so much about my itunes music and videos I have physical backups of that stuff.
What I am concerned about is not having an iphone back up to sync with and loosing all my apps.
I did find the folder that the iphone back up is stored in and copied to my idisc.

please advise.

Well, when you purchase apps, itunes records it in your app store. So you can just redownload them and it shouldn't charge you.
