Welcome to Mac-Forums

Open up System Preferences > Mouse and check the "Double-Click Speed" slider, if it is all the way to the right then slide it a little to the left so that your mac recognises a double click if it is slower than it is expecting.

Also if you could include your mac specs including OS version that would help us help you.

Hope this helps

- Simon
