Nvidia 8800 gt

I am new here and I have an issue that well I just came out of warranty on my machine and I am having video issues with my NVIDIA 8800GT.

The issue is regarding very weak non smooth graphics is the best way I can explain. I downloaded the lastest drivers for this card on NVIDIA's website but when I go to install the package it tells me that I do not have NVIDIA on this machine.

I looked in my "About this Mac > More Info > Graphics/Displays I have the NVIDIA GFORCE 7300 GT in Slot 3 and NVIDIA GeFORCE 8800 GT in Slot 1.

I have turned off my machine unpulgged it and reseated the video card but I am still getting the same issue as before.

This just started happening and I get no indication of errors etc...

Also when I play WOW the screen just goes bizzerck and I have to actually turn off the machine to get it back.

Any ideas??

You really need to provide more details about the model Mac you have and the OS version you are running.

Drivers for the 8800GT were included as far back as OS X.5.2 from memory so you do not need to download anything. The power cable connected to the mother board okay as they can come loose? There are two versions of the 8800GT for Mac Pros, the 1st and 2nd generations. Got the correct one?

If still have that problem then the card may well be failing as graphic cards do. Also consider popping the 7300 into slot 4 rather than 3, as you can then set this up as 8 lane and slot three is only 4 lane.

On placing the card in slot 4 and on reboot, OpenGL should open and set it up as Option 3, 16 lasne slot 1, 1 lane slots 2 and 3 and 8 lane slot 4.

This explains it much better with graphics:-

Great info Harry! I think that you should be nominated as the current "Mac-Forums Expert" on still owning & upgrading the Mac Pro 1,1!!!:)

@lifeisabeach...I know that you're a Mac Pro 1,1 expert as well. But I think that you mentioned in another thread that you no longer have your Mac Pro 1,1...that's why I give Harry the edge.;)

I was also a Mac Pro 1,1 owner for about 3 years...and just got rid of mine about 2 months I removed myself as a possible "#1 Mac-Forums Mac Pro 1,1 Expert" as well!;)

- Nick

p.s. Just having a little fun...I know that both of you guys are Mac experts!!!:)
