Well, lets start by what your budget is, its hard to say since some later model G5 computers do use intel core 2 duo processors as well, although I would put my money on the mac mini.

iMac 2.93 i7 8GB 5750
2010 Macbook 2.4 intel Core 2 Duo 4GB
iPhone 4S 16GB & iPhone 4S 32GB
iPad 16GB

Mac Specs: iMac 2.4 C2D 10.9.4, iMac 2.16 C2d 10.6.8, Macbook2007 10.8.4, Mac Mini 10.8.4, iPhone 3GS Note 8!!

No G5 uses an Intel CPU. A G5 is a Power PC CPU by IBM. Has nothing to do with Intel.

I would go with the Mini Intel if you can afford it.

For that cost he could possibly get a used macbook I would think, and at least be portable at the same time.

iMac 2.93 i7 8GB 5750
2010 Macbook 2.4 intel Core 2 Duo 4GB
iPhone 4S 16GB & iPhone 4S 32GB
iPad 16GB
