I currently have a 17 inch intel imac 2006 late model edition. About a year ago i upgraded hard drive to 500 gig sata2 drive no problems. I would like to upgrade now to a 2 terabyte sata 3 drive. Does anyone know if Sata 3 is backwards compatible?? I am looking to put in a Deskstar 7K2000 2TB 7,200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive.

Any suggestions?

Yes, SATA 3 is backwards compatible with SATA 2.

Just to clarify SATA 3.0Gb/s is really SATA II. SATA III is 6.0Gb/s. But a SATA II or III drive should work fine as they are both backwards compatible. I think the connection is SATA II any way but not positive.

Yes that is a grizzlycorn
