Hi

I ahve an iMac G3 500MHz, Firewire, USB, 20GB HDD, 384 RAM , Slot Laoding CDRW drive

i want to buy a 512 stick of SDRAm for this machine to put the ram to 768
(i will take out the 128) it takes PC 100 SDRAM i was just wondering will it also work with PC133 cuz PC100 is like double the price.

Also can i exchange the HDD in this computer and if i cant do it can apple do it for me?

Thanks once again ppl

Here's an illustrated guide for upgrading the HDD: http://www.appletalk.com.au/forums/i...?showtopic=436. I've not installed PC133 in one of these so I'll leave that subject to others. However, I would note that these models can be very picky about memory, especially when upgrading to OS X. You might want search a site like www.ramseeker.com to get some comparative pricing.

Ram is backwards compatible meaning that you can put a faster ram into the computer then it asks for but you will only get the performance of the 100 not the 133 because the board is not capable of those speeds that is why they recomend a certain speed of ram so you don't over pay by buying a speed ram that is wayyyy to fast that the computer can handle because you aren't getting better performance from it... so in shor the answer to your question is yes you can put pc133 ram in you imac.

Legally, the CDs that come with a specific computer are to be used for that computer only. To reinforce that Apple often "keys" the supplied CDs to specific models so that they can't be used on other computers. To get the commercial version of Tiger on CDs you have to purchase the DVD version and send it to Apple for exchange. There is a shipping charge involved. You can find the info for the exchange program on the www.apple.com site.

Ok with my imac im thinking of puttin a 120GB HD in to replace the old 20GB. If i do this will i have to install 9.2 and update firmware. because the old 20gb was only on 9.2 its never been on OSX. if i do install 9.2 and the firmware when i put either panther or tiger on can i do an erase and install or do i have to keep 9.2 for the firmware , i know you need it for classic but i would do that later

Any ideas?
thanks
