    2008 imac question
Newbie here so forgive me ignorance. Would do a search but I am not even sure what terms to use etc.

With that being said here is my issue:

one morning I flip on the power to my imac and it wont accept my login?
I tried inserting the Snow Leapord DVD and holding the C key and nothing happens at all.
I have tried to restart the machine with the disk, tried pulling the power cord and repeating the process etc.

Does anyone have a clue what is wrong with my machine and if there is any possible way to solve this problem?

    thanks in advance

    27" iMac i5, 3.2 GHz, iPad 3, iPhone 5c, iPhone 6+, 3 iPods, Yosemite
    Welcome to the Mac Forums.

We need some more information. You say that you can't log in... what specifically is displayed on the screen? Is the screen all gray, all blue, do you see a folder with a question mark, a spinning logo? Please be specific.

Also, when you tried to boot with your SL DVD what happened? What did you see on the screen?

And the last question: Is your iMac covered under Apple care? Because if it is, make an appointment with Apple and take it on in for them to look at.

Also provide us with specs on your 2008 iMac.

It shouldn't say MacBook Pro on the log in screen. Has it always done that or did it just happen?

You say you tried to boot with your SL DVD and it wouldn't boot so I'm not sure trying what I suggest below will work.

Let's try to start the machine in SAFE boot mode. Reboot and hold down the shift key until you see the Apple on the screen. Let us know if that works and we can go from there.

    Specs:
    iMac i5 2.7GHz, 16GB memory, OS 10.10.5
And is the SL disc a full retail version and not from another computer, such as a MacBook Pro?
Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

Good catch Harry. He's probably trying to boot with a MBP SL disk and that's why the machine won't boot from it.
