Only in apps that support dual processors (Photoshop, FCP, C4D, etc.) Under normal light use (Mail, surfing, word processing) it will run as if it were a single.
Ex. - dual 1.25GHz runs like a single 1.25GHz under normal circumstances.
Hope this helps. Which G4 is it?

Right.
If those are your choices, the single 1Ghz G4 would be the better machine.

It is the same for any dual processor system.

While i don't have a in-depth knowledge about the similarities & differences of single & dual cpu systems, i prefer single cpu systems. I'm a minimalist by nature, & like a system that is simple, & efficiently does what i need it to.

validpretense is on a distinguished road
Mac Specs: 1.33GHz 12" iBook; iMac G3 333Mhz; Use Dual 2Ghz PM G5's

With that much of a difference, the single is better. But I would take 2x 2GHz G5s over one 2.7. The difference is in what software you use.
