Adding third internal hard drive to Mac Pro 1.1
I have a Mac Pro 1.1 (late 2007/early 2008) with Mac OS X 1.6 upgraded from 1.5 on one hard drive. Since, after upgrade, I am experiencing some problems with the system, I would like to add a third hard drive and install Mac OS X 1.6 on it. Do I have to remove the existing hard drive with Mac OS X 1.6? Would the boot loader know, which hard drive to boot from?

    Thanks,

    Michal

First lets correct something...you didn't install Mac OS 1.5 or 1.6...it's Mac OS 10.5 or 10.6!

You can install up to 4 internal hard drives in a Mac Pro...so you don't have to remove anything at this point if you only have two hard drives currently installed.

Second...to choose which hard drive you want to boot from...hold down the "option" key when you restart the computer:

No problems at all. I have got a similar setup in my Mac Pro of the same vintage. one drive has 10.5 one has 10.6 and two data drives. You can use the option key during bootup to choose drives or the Startup preference pane.
