    Hi guys,

i'm cloning my 60GB start up hard drive from my dead emac, which is now the heart of my ebay bought mdd power mac, to a 160GB hard drive. It says the 160GB will be a bootable drive. can someone confirm that I can use this as my start up drive and put the 60GB drive away for safe keeping. i'm learning as I go here.

    Thanks

Yes, as long as you are making a "bootable clone". I use SuperDuper! (same thing as CCC) so I can't say exactly how you do that, but I'm sure it's an option you choose when making the backup. Test it before you put that 60GB away, just to make sure it worked. Sometimes it takes 2 tries.

Yes, you can absolutely do that with CCC. I do this now on every Mac I purchase. Not only does it provide me a way to keep on chugging if my internal HDD fails; should that happen, I can do the same copy to the replacement internal and it's good as new; no need to reinstall the OS, migrate from Time Machine, or any of that other nonsense.
'cause when it rains, you know it pours.

You do not have to put it away. Just pop it in position two under the 160GB drive, after setting the jumpers to salve. Then use whichever cloning program you wish and ignore the Time Machine advice as you are probably using an earlier OS in the eMac.

The drive in the top or position one will be the boot drive.
Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!
