I'm trying to migrate from my MacPro to my iMac. I need Macmail and everything to go with me...I tryed copying my home folder to an external hard drive and transferring that way, but it didn't work. I don't really want to use the migration app, as I have heard that is a messy transfer.
Any suggestions?

Migration assistant isn't really a messy affair, if anything the way you are trying to do it is possibly more messy and time consuming.
Give it a go on migration assistant, let us know how you get on.
