Sup Guys,

The quad core power mac g5 shipped with 533,hz ddr2 ram, but the frontside bus on the 2.3ghz model is 1.15ghz, and on the 2.5ghz model its 1.25ghz. Is it possible to install 667mhz or 800mhz ram and its actually usable. I found stuff on google which says the work, but it never said at what speeds. Someone said its downclocked to 533mhz.
Any one know what the max usable RAM speeds are in the 2.3ghz or 2.5ghz dual core, dual processor PowerMac G5.

Cheers

You can use DDR2 speeds that are faster than the mobo supports, but they will downclock themselves to speeds the mobo can handle.

No speed gain as s2odin points out. The Dual Core will simply work at its best speed and not even access faster memory speeds. It will simply plug along at 533MHz.

Memory speed and system speed are not related.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!
