How about a mac mini or a emac? If your low on money you could always check the refurbished prices or just call your local apple store and aks them if they have any open boxed ones? I got my ibook open box and it looks brand new, and you save some money.

Check out local colleges. I got an older Powermac G4-400Mhz at one for $100 with 576Mb ram. If I wanted to put like $550 into it, I could have a 1.3Ghz processor. Or, more money equals more ram. Used can be the best way to go. Otherwise, you could get a pretty good mini for that. If you could pull together another $200, the bottom iBook would be in range. Maybe look into used iBooks if you would value portability.
