Hi All,
I converted a friend to Mac, he didn't want to spend a bomb straight up and with a couple of kids I found a G5 Tower for them at auction. I had one a year or so back and it was a solid, but big machine. There was no OS included in the purchase.

The Mac is an "APPLE, PowerMac G5 Desktop, Silver, 2 X PowerPC G5 2.0GHZ, 2560MB, DDR2 RAM"

I also purchased Snow Leopard but it wouldn't boot up off disk. So I tried with Tiger and got a hanged screen with code. I then started in Target mode and hooked it up to my imac and found the HD had been reformatted incorrectly so I redid that Extended Journaled, quick check of the HD using repair disk function but Snow Leopard still won't boot the Mac, I can't install the OS in Target mode, it won't recognise the disk.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks Albey

You can not install Snow Leopard on the G5. SL is for Intel only machines, your G5 is a PPC machine. However, you should be able to install Tiger or Leopard. Unless you have the original disk set that came with the G5, you will need to buy a retail set of either Tiger or Leopard. Both are going to be expensive and difficult to find so you might as well go for Leopard which is the latest that will install on a PPC.
