Was waiting for the recent iMac refresh before buying, and wasn't disappointed. I do mainly Photoshop, video editing, and some audio production... so was concerned about presumably needing to get a higher end model to make sure it would still be relevant for 4 years or so.
Anyway, I was blown away by the initial bench mark tests of the lowest rung $1199 model, so in the interest of a penny saved is a penny earned, went with that. Got the unit and did a Geekbench test, which came back with an impressive 5710 score. I waited until recently to get an 8gb ram upgrade, which puts me at 12gb... good to go. Only thing is, test I just ran came back with only a modest bump to 5756 on another Geekbench test. Just wondering... is that normal? Do ram upgrades not necessarily show up in these kinds of generic tests? Or, did I purchase some mediocre quality memory? I did value shop, and picked up one of the cheapest offers on the web. I don't even think it had a brand name. Anyway, just curious if others have done the same thing, and gotten better scores post-upgrade. |
