USB ports won't let me start up!!

I have to unplug any USB leads connected to my imac for it to start up. Any answers on how to repair this fault would be great!! |

300mhz 6GB 192MB Ram Bondi blue Mac OS 9.2.1 Slot loading CD It makes no difference whether you a have keyboard, mouse, printer, scanner etc plugged in. |
