HD/Enclosure Combo:
Western Digital WD400JD 40gb, 8mb Cache, 7200RPM
Rosewill RX30-U2FA FireWire/USB Enclosure

I have it plugged in using FireWire. I cloned my hard drive to the external one then set it as the boot drive. It seems to boot a little bit quicker. The WD hd isn't the quietest one I have ever used. Overall things load a bit quicker and feel a little snappier. It isn't a HUGE difference like I have heard it might be but it is well worth the money, especially if you go with a bigger HD so you have that advantage also.

I originally had an 80gb Samsung Hard Drive in the enclosure but it was having problems being recognized, it didn't work plugged into my mac or my PC.

Yeah it looks great. The power LED is blue and really bright, I am probably going to change it to white.

I'm thinking about about trying that out on my mini. About how much did you drop for the enclosure and new drive?

$60 shipped for the enclosure, I have had the HD lying around for awhile so I don't know how much it costs new, but I know you can find 80GB drives for around $60.

Is the speed difference worth the money you spent? If I were to do it, I'd have to drop cash for both the enclosure and a new hard drive. thanks for earlier reply

The more I use it the more I like it. At first I wasn't terribly impressed but it is working a lot smoother. I don't know if it is worth the money to go to an external 40gb like I did, but if you went with an 80gb+ I would consider it a worthwhile upgrade.
