I've just ordered a 21.5'' imac and will need to transfer files from my ancient 10.4.11 macbook. Can you tell me which FireWire cable/adapter I may need? Thanks!

a standard 6-circuit Firewire cable - that's it

more specifically you need a 6pin to 6pin FW cable...

FireWire 6-6 pin .5m (thin) - Apple Store (U.S.)

Sorry my mistake, on the new iMacs, you need Firewire 6pin to 9pin

Belkin 6'/1.8m 9-Pin to 6-Pin FireWire 800/400 Cable - Apple Store (U.S.)

(6 pin goes into your MacBook and 9 pin into your new shiny iMac 21.5')
or you can get the cable I posted to before (6 pin to 6 pin) and then get a 6 pin to 9 pin adapter like this one: IEEE 1394b Firewire 800 9-Pin to 6-Pin Adapter : BargainCell.com - Bargain Cellular Phone Accessories
