I bought my iMac 20" back a month or so ago and although I loved it... it was really a disapointment for both gaming and especially Apple Motion. I just chalked it up to a "dumbed down CPU" because it was an iMac... but truthfully I had really expected much better performance out of it.
Well... I learned my lesson... I left the iMac with the default 512mb or RAM that it came with.... I know Macs respond well to RAM upgrades but not this well: Day before yesterday... Just for kicks I pulled a 512mb stick out of my PC (they both just happen to use the same kind) and stuck it in the iMac to give it 1Gb. Night and Day... UT2K4... runs at full-res all best settings and completely flawless. Motion is actually running in real time just like it is advertised. The whole machine is running like it is on a vitamin B12 shot. I take back any statements I made about Macs being bad for gaming... LOL And I'm sure all the long time Mac fanatics are laughing at me right now... **duh** "If you had a friend who was a tightrope walker, and you were walking down a sidewalk, and he fell, that would be completely unacceptable." -Mitch Hedberg

I usually stick to the mainstream games so Mac game selection has never really been a problem for me (I know there are some mainstream games that aren't for Mac). PCs still have the gaming performance edge for sure IMO... but I was just really turned off by the lack of performance in games by my PB and my iMac. Fortunately RAM just seemed to be the major bottleneck. They still don't hold a candle to my ATI X700 packing HP... But I guess that is to be expected.
