Just installed a ATI Radeon 9600 Pro in my G5 dual 1.8 and the system profiler shows the video ram to be 64mb! It should be 256mb, any ideas why?

Thanks for any help.

Was the card purchased new or used? Original or flashed? It's possible that the card is damaged.

Also try resetting the pram on your machine.

That particular card comes in three configurations: 64 MB, 128 MB, and 256 MB. You should be able to tell which you have by examining the card.

Here's a photo of the 64 MB version. LINK

You didn't say where you purchased the card from but it's likely that you have the 64 MB version. A defective card (bad VRAM) would not work at all because of the way the VRAM is configured.

Regards.

Card was bought off ebay and is original as far as I know.
The question has been answered by chscag, I didn't know there was a 64mb version! I would've been happy with a 128 or 256. So I spent over £70 on a card with the same 64mb as I already had! I'd done quite a bit of research before getting this including buying another Radeon 9600 Pro which was advertised as mac compatible but wasn't. I had less problems buying my car.
Thanks for the info.

Tough luck steveball as you have paid the premium price for a cheaper card, The best card is the 256MB Mac/PC version. Had less problems buying your car, BUT did you buy the car on eBay lol?

What did that Dual 1.8 G5 come with? Was it not an NVidia GeForce FX5200 Ultra? If so I still would rather have that ATI 9600 even with the 64 Megs VRam than the 5200.

Sorry though you paid that much for a 64 Meg card. Darn Ebay sometimes!
