Hi everyone!
I purchased a Powermac G4 on Ebay..*(yeah bad idea!)
I believe it is the Sawtooth model. When i turned it on, it came up with a message telling me to restart the unit.
So I restarted it several times but still no change!
The Apple logo and the spinning circle appears but then a grey screen tells me to restart.

What happened..Is it a job that I can do at home?
Please Help!

Thank you.

Do you have a URL to the auction by chance? Would love to see the machine and what the seller claimed it was.

What you are seeing is a Kernel Panic. It can be caused by bad hardware like the RAM or even a corrupted OS install.

If you can post that URL so we can get a better idea exactly what machine it is and help you. I work with old Power Macs all the time and so do many others here on the forums.

This is what they said;
The URL is:

Apple G4 Powermac 400mhz,512mb,80gig,dvd-Rom on eBay (end time 24-May-10 10:53:46 BST) PowerMac G4

This is a great computer for someone who is new to macs easy to use and cheap.

This item has been refurbished to a good standard, but please be aware these are second-hand laptops and may have a few marks and scratches. Our engineers do their best to clean them up as best they can.

Here are the specifications:

:400 MHZ
:512 Memory
:80 GB Hard Drive
DVD ROM
:10.3.2 operating system
:No keyboard or Mouse

I hope this can help you!

Most likely you need to reinstall the OS. Youll have to hunt up a Retail version of the OS you what.... Or its the memory like dtravis7 said. Pull some of the sticks"how many are in it". See what happens. I buy machines off Ebay and its not really that bad an idea. You just need the tools to repair them.

Hi Again!

I tried pulling out all of the sticks of ram apart from one
and it appeared to do something different, last time it told me to restart, but now it's showing a flashing folder with a question mark and the finder symbol.

Is that better then before?
Thanks guys.
