Repaired iMac shows 400GB of my HD used. I've only used 100GB?

Hey everyone,
New to macforums, i'll try to be brief

recently, my 24" iMac died. We took to the apple repair, and after two weeks, a logic board, graphics card and 2 hard drive replacements later, my mac was fixed.

today im trying to reinstall windows, but i cant partition my drive equally. i get info on my HD -> it says i've used 398.56GB or something. in disbelief, i calculated the sizes (got info for each folder) for all the folders within the HD. This totals to about 88GB.

I've enabled my hidden files, they dont appear to be large, unless there's an alias folder and i cant immediately see the size.

i also downloaded Disk Inventory X and OmniDiskSweeper to find this massive file, but to no avail. I've searched on the HD using (command+F -> settings etc.) and through the terminal (find /users/me/ -size +10000)

what does everyone think? i dont particularly want to reinstall - is it looking like the only option?

Cheers
Plutonyum

Although I don't know immediately of anything that can cause this, I can offer one more thing to use to try to search for big files.
The app that our team makes, MacKeeper, actually does that in the Disc Usage tool. A trial version will be capable of scanning your drive to look for those, so you don't even have to buy it.
Here's the link:
MacKeeper | Download
After installing go to Disk Usage tool, set preferences for the file size you want to look for and Change Folder to your whole hard drive, then click Rescan.
Hope this will help you, otherwise it is looking like a format might be needed.
