I just installed microsoft office 08 and don't want the powerpoint, excel or entourage icons in the dock. I have done all the logical things like unclick 'keep in dock' and click 'show in finder' plus try to drag icons to the trash bin but the icons remain. Anyone know how to do this?

Also i would quite like to add a google chrome icon under the safari one (in the stack) is this possible?

To remove the item from the dock, simply drag the icon onto the desktop and release the mouse. It'll go away in a poof!

As far as the stack, I'm assuming you have an applications folder on your dock? If so, the icon should already be in there. Don't know how to put them in specific order, in the stack, though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, old-timers, but I don't believe you can stack icons on the dock.

have you tried just dragging them to the desktop, normally a smoke cloud appears as you release the mouse button and the icon dissapears from the dock.

Long ago if you put a space in front of the alias name it moved it up the list.

Yeah, that shouldn't be done these days.

You can sort a stack pretty much any way you want: name, date created, date modified, date added, or type. Should take care of your needs.

is that black cloth thing that comes in the box in fact a cloth for wiping screens or is it a mouse mat. If its not a mouse mat then why didn't it come supplied with one?

Good question!

It's a microfibre cloth for wiping the screen.

The reason you don't get a "mouse mat" is because Apple mice don't need mats -- they track accurately without them (unless you are using it on a mirrored desk, and if you are, the 70s called and they want that desk back now).

hmmm possible problemo there with scratching, i feel uneasy using it on mums antique mohogany table! (plus it sounds horrible)

Why not? (space in front of a filename) Does it still move things to the top? (It does in Leopard.) What harm does it do?
