Hi turned my iMac on to day and the fan is running which is something i've never heard before so worried something may be wrong.

Is there anything I can do to stop it? I've restarted it a few times and the fan cut's in straight away!!!

Open up Activity Monitor and check if you have an application taking up the resources. Maybe something that autostarts? Wold explain why it happens after a reboot.

Open the app up and scroll down the list looking at anything that is eating cpu cycles. It will be a bunch if its blasting your fans so should stick right out

Maybe that fan was supplied by Toyota.
(sorry, couldn't resist)

How old is the computer? If it's still under warranty, perhaps there's a fix that would not cost you anything.

I'm not an expert here, but you may want to check the internal temperatures (widget available for that - but not at my Mac just now so I don't remember the name) to see if you have a temp problem or a fan control problem.

I rang the shop who told me I had 90 days free support which they forgot to tell me when I bought it!!!

They said shut down > unplug from the wall > unplug everything connected to the back > leave for 5 mins > plug back in and then turn on.

It worked and I can now hear my self think!!!!

Cheers guys

I hope it still works on day 91 also!

Glad that suggestion helped. Suffering through my humor was worth it.

That's 90 days free telephone support. Your warranty is good for a year unless you purchase Apple care and then it's extended an additional two years with free telephone support.

Regards.

I was getting worried because I now have to earn a living with it and my 5D as my engineering work ran out three weeks ago. :-(

I have 10 forward bookings for photos just hope they keep coming in :-)
