mini dvi to dvi adaptor

so i just bought a mini dvi to dvi adaptor for my 2009 20" intel imac....and the **** mini dvi end doesn't fit in the port! it's too big! so if i don't need a mini dvi to dvi, then what do i need?

You purchased the wrong adapter. Your machine requires a mini display port adapter. Monoprice.com has them in various output formats. LINK

Or pay more for one at the on line Apple store. LINK
