some (not all) discs get spit out

I have a new set of foreign language learning discs. Some (3) play just fine (icon pops up on the desk top, I click it and program plays), but the other 5 discs get spit out (no icon).

I took the discs back to the electronics store; the guy there said all the discs played on both the PC and Mac there.

If I had a bad player, would it make sense that some but not all discs play?

Maybe not. Try cleaning your superdrive. Drive cleaning kits are available at most stores which sell computers and accessories. Radio Shack, Best Buy, Office Depot, Fry's, etc.
