Hello first time poster :-)

Ive been saving and ive been saving. I love my ibook to bits, and my aging 1.3ghz pc is looking forward to being put to rest after 4 years of faithful service.

Im saving for a G5 the question is either to get the single 1.7 is it? or the dual 2ghz, theres about £300 difference between the two...am i realy going to notice a siginficant speed increase between the two?

Im mostly using photoshop and dabbling with a few soft synths and sequencers for music production

..and then again is the temptation to wait 'for the next upgrade' which i know is always around the corner, and always will be...just jump now

any advice woule be great :-)

:-)

The dual 2GHz is significantly faster than the single 1.8GHz. The single model is about as fast as an iMac G5 - the dual model is an absolute speed demon.

Get one ASAP. The PowerMac line was *just* updated recently and you may have to wait another few months to get one that wont be obsolete the following week.

Thanks for your input, i suppose if im paying so much money anyway, it would be a little silly not going that little extra mile. Got to budget in for cramming more ram in there, 512mb just isnt enough :-)

just need to work another 3 or so weeks, pay the car tax and make the leap :-) scarey, ive always had a PC as my main machine, its going to be wierd. Cant wait to get itunes transfered over from my ibook! i photo on big screen! wow cant wait

i wouldne even consider going for the single 1.7, its not worth the money, if you're cashing out so much go for the dual

Thanks for your advice, this pc im using kind of works for me already and this is 1.3ghz ish, i just need more storage and a nicer way of working, thats gonna last a while, speed isnt a super issue, i dont do much work with filters, just many many MANY layers. I heard somebody say a while back (A LONG WHILE BACK) that a 1ghz mac was equivillant to a 2ghz pc or something, not sure if this still sticks.

I love Malta! ive been about 10 times now! Mdina is gorgeous :-)
