hi.... iv got a 80gb hd as the main hd in my mac but i want to install a 500gb hd.

can i sort of ghost the 80g hd or copy it without having to install leopard again?

im sure iv read somwhere that e are able to back up the main hd incase of failure but i dont have a clue..

Yes. You want to use Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC)

Assuming from your user name that you have a G4 PPC, make sure that it's 2002 or later. Earlier G4's had a limit of 128 Gb for their hard drives.

Did you realise, btw, that you can install a second, even third and fourth, hard drive inside the G4 without ditching the original 80 Gb disk? You'd probably want to switch the positioning of the drive units so that the new one became the primary. Then you could happily install Lpd, and transfer files very quickly, from old to new.

Blue apple, top LH corner > About This Mac > More Info ... which will open System Profiler. Click the Hardware entry and then read the Machine Overview.

The Model number should be on the back panel, and you can check that with Apple's website Power Mac G4: How to Differentiate Between Models.
