im sure iv seen on here that i can make a copy of my hd so i can swap my original hd thats 80gb, to a 500gb....????

the 80gb is the system hd.

Yes, you can copy or "clone" your hard drive to the new one and then just swap them out. You can use either "SuperDuper" (shareware) or "Carbon Copy Cloner" (donation ware).
