Hi,
I think this might be a problem with my fan, not that it is too loud but it is at 0 rpm when I turn the computer on. I look at iStat and it tells me the fan is 0 rpm but about 7 minutes later the fan suddenly comes on to about 1500 rpm. Is it normal for the fan to not come on straight away. DOes it need time to warm up or something? I just want to know if this is normal behaviour for the mini. THe fan does work just not for about 10 minutes.

Did you restart the computer, like it was running for a while before and then the fans didnt turn on for a while or was it shut down overnight? if its the latter it would make sense, since the computer hasn't really heated up yet.
I don't know about the exact specs of a mini, but my G5 always turns fans on at boot, though it might generate a lot more heat than the mini

ALSO - check that its not just istat. widgets run kinda slow on my comp so i use smcfancontrol.

No, that is not normal behavior for the Mini fan. It should turn on immediately upon boot up and at least run at its set minimum which is probably around 1800 RPM. If your machine is still under warranty you may want to have Apple look at it. It's possible that the sensor which controls the fan is defective.

Also if it is a problem is it really worth the trouble of taking it in to Apple? I mean its not overheating or anything. And plus its not just istat its on everything. i cant feel any air out of the back either and then all of a sudden... the fans start up, wierd.

I must admit I do not too much about MACs
I only owned a MAC PRO WORKstation included 4 internal HDS
When I start up all the fans runs fast and within 1 minute it all slow downs to about 599 rpm and 499 rpm 599 rpm for the power supply and exhaust fan the rest are at 499 rpm
I thought this the normal behaviour for a MAC

Hi there, if you have read my previous post "Fan Problems" then you will knw that my fan stays at 0 rpm for a short amount of time after a cold boot before coming on. On AHT i get the error 4SNS/1/40000002/Center_Upper-Front.
ON the net it says this is to do with loose or faulty sensor. Is this true? If so, how would i get to this cable (hd sensor cable) and unplug it and plug it back in? I am a bit nervous about opening the mini. Is this easy to do? Is it easy to get to? Could it break if i do it?

In my previous reply to you regarding the fan not coming on when you turn the machine on..... I told you that it was not normal for it to do so; which you seemed to have ignored at the time.

My answer to you is still the same: Take it on in to Apple since the machine is under warranty. If it is a defective sensor, they'll replace it. Why are you trying to do this repair yourself? A mini is very difficult to open up and repair. It's probably the most difficult of all the current Mac machines to do any type of self work on.

The reason I haven't done so is that my machine is no longer under warranty and would be a pain to take it all the way to the store ( I live far away) and plus, its not overheating or anything so I thought maybe it was just a case of just replugging in a sensor. I have not ignored what you said and I would like to thank you for your support.

OK. My apologies for thinking your machine is still under warranty. Since you have to troubleshoot it yourself, it might be a good idea to find some step by step procedures for disassembling the machine. As I stated above, the mini is the most difficult of current machines to work on.
