Hey everyone!

Just a quick question about the new Late 09 MacMini models.

I've been doing a little research into buying one of them as a desktop computer after saving up a bit more money. I read that OWC has an 8GB ram upgrade for them. Now, I know I won't need that anytime soon, but the potential upgrade is always good.

As a student, there is no way I could get enough money together all at once to get 8GB all at once. So, would the Mini work with a 4GB stick and a 1GB or 2GB stick of RAM in it? Or would this be detrimental? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much!

My Mactracker application only shows the early 2009 Mini which it states can only accept 4 GB of memory. However, if OWC specifically states that they have an 8 GB kit for the late 2009 mini, then it must be so. (OWC are Mac specialists and should know.)

Having said that, why do you think you would need 8 GB of memory? What do you intend to do with the mini? Unless you're into graphic design or some other memory intensive work, (in that case you wouldn't buy a mini) 4 GB of memory should be more than enough.

Regards.

Well, there is a new MacTracker out in the last week or so, that says it takes 8GB.
I don't think I'll need 8GB any time soon, I was merely theorising.

Some time away I might bother with an upgrade to the RAM or HDD, and was wondering if it were possible. If only to make the Mini up-to-date with any possible upgrades and as fast as possible were I to need any memory-heavy activity.
