What a silly comparison. An out of date previous gen iMac vs a new Quad core. Are there any tests that actually mean anything to the people that pay attention to these tests?

A high end 24" 3.06 with 4gb vs this machine is what would have been useful.

A new iMac would be my dream! This is the only, besides the Mac Pro, desktop computer that I would allow to sit on my desk! It's just beautiful!

I think that the important point of this article isn't the comparison...it's the quad-core benchmarks themselves. You can take the quad-core benchmarks, and then do an internet search for benchmarks from previous reviews to compare with.

But I do agree a 2.4ghz core 2 duo 24" iMac wasn't the best choice for a comparison. Maybe it was the only other iMac the reviewer had handy tocompare against the quad-core iMac.

Most tech sites I visit are mostly on hardware and test using windows. Since Mac's these days run intel cpu's and chipsets, one might consider those results. Also, most of the tests they use change over time. This makes comparison difficult with older hardware ...

I personnaly have not owned a quad core PC yet, the most so far is an AMD 720 with 3 cores. Gaming and most other apps do not yet use 4 cores and 6 cores will be out soon ...

Here, new link comparing all 4 current iMacs... looks like the i7 gives a pretty significant bump over even the i5, which dominates the 2 core chips too.
